OpenRouter

The recommended AI provider — widest model selection, pay-per-use.

Why OpenRouter?

OpenRouter is a unified API gateway that gives you access to models from Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (GPT-4o), Google (Gemini), Meta (Llama), Mistral, and many others — all through a single API key. Instead of managing separate accounts and keys for each provider, you manage one balance and switch models freely within QuickContract.

OpenRouter uses pay-per-use pricing with no monthly minimums. You add credit to your account and are charged per token as you generate contracts, use QuickEdit, or chat with the Legal Advisor.

Starting budget

A $5 credit top-up on OpenRouter is typically enough for weeks of normal contract generation. Each contract costs roughly $0.02–$0.10 in AI usage depending on the model and contract length.

Setting up OpenRouter

Create an OpenRouter account

Go to openrouter.ai and sign up. You can sign in with Google, GitHub, or email.

Add credit

Navigate to your OpenRouter dashboard and add credit to your account. We recommend starting with $5, which is enough to explore different models and generate dozens of contracts.

Create an API key

Go to Keys in your OpenRouter dashboard and click Create Key. Give it a name like "QuickContract" so you can identify it later. Copy the key — you will only see it once.

Add the key to QuickContract

Open QuickContract and go to Settings (Cmd + ,). In the AI Provider section, select OpenRouter from the dropdown. Paste your API key into the key field.

Choose a model

QuickContract will load the list of available models from OpenRouter. Select the model you want to use. For contract work, we recommend Claude Sonnet or GPT-4o for the best balance of quality and cost.

Choosing a model

OpenRouter gives you access to a wide range of models. Here are some recommendations for contract work:

Model Best for Cost
Claude Sonnet Best overall for contracts — strong reasoning, clear language Low
Claude Opus Complex contracts requiring deep analysis Medium
GPT-4o Fast generation, strong formatting Low
Gemini Pro Good quality at lower cost Low
Llama 3 Budget option, decent quality for simple contracts Very low

You can switch models at any time from Settings without generating a new API key.

Checking your balance

QuickContract displays your current OpenRouter balance in the sidebar when OpenRouter is your active provider. You can also check your usage and remaining credit directly on the OpenRouter dashboard.
