Exporting Contracts
Save contracts as PDF or DOCX for sharing and signing.
QuickContract stores all contracts in its local database, but you will often need a standalone file to share with the other party, send to legal counsel, or archive in your company's document management system. The export feature produces a formatted PDF or DOCX file that preserves the styling from the editor.
Export formats
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| Final versions for signing, sharing with external parties, and archival. PDF files look identical on every device and cannot be easily edited by the recipient. | |
| DOCX | Contracts that the other party needs to edit or redline. DOCX files open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and other word processors for collaborative revision. |
Manual export
Open the contract
Navigate to the contract you want to export and open it in the editor or the preview page.
Click Export
Click the Export button in the toolbar. A dropdown appears with the available formats: Export as PDF and Export as DOCX.
Choose a location
A standard macOS save dialog opens. Choose where to save the file, optionally rename it, and click Save. The file is generated and saved to disk in a few seconds.
Formatting
Exported files preserve the formatting you see in the editor. Headings, bold and italic text, numbered lists, bullet lists, and block quotes all carry over to the exported document. The contract title, parties, and date appear in the document header. Page numbers are added automatically in PDF exports.
The exported file matches the editor view. If you want to adjust formatting before exporting — for example, changing a heading level or removing a section — make those edits in the editor first. The export reflects the current state of the contract.
Auto-export
If you want every contract saved to a folder automatically, enable auto-export in settings. Open Settings from the sidebar, navigate to the Auto-Export section, and configure the following:
- Export format — Choose PDF, DOCX, or both.
- Export folder — Click Choose Folder to select the destination directory. A common choice is a folder synced to iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or Google Drive for automatic cloud backup.
Once enabled, QuickContract exports a copy of every contract to the specified folder whenever the contract is generated or updated. Auto-exported files are named using the contract title and date for easy identification. This runs in the background and does not interrupt your workflow.
Point the auto-export folder to a directory inside iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. Every contract you generate or edit will be automatically backed up to the cloud without any additional steps.
