Contract Comparison
Compare two contracts side by side and merge the best terms.
Contract negotiations often involve multiple versions of the same document. QuickContract's comparison tool places two contracts side by side, matches their clauses automatically, and highlights every difference so you can see exactly what changed between versions.
Starting a comparison
Open the comparison view
From the contract editor or the contracts list, click the Compare button. You will be prompted to select a second contract to compare against the current one. You can choose any contract in your workspace — generated, uploaded, or from a shared team workspace.
Review the side-by-side diff
The comparison view displays both contracts in a split-pane layout. The left side shows the base contract and the right side shows the comparison contract. Clauses are aligned automatically based on their content and position, so corresponding sections appear at the same vertical level.
Merge the best terms
For each clause that differs between the two versions, you can choose which version to keep. Click on a highlighted clause to see the full text of both versions, then select the one you prefer. The merged result is saved as a new version of the base contract.
Understanding the diff
The comparison view uses color coding to make differences immediately visible:
| Highlight | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Text that was added in the comparison contract but does not exist in the base contract. |
| Red | Text that exists in the base contract but was removed in the comparison contract. |
| Yellow | Text that was modified — the clause exists in both versions but the wording differs. |
Clauses that are identical in both contracts are displayed without highlighting, so you can focus your attention on what actually changed.
Clause matching
QuickContract uses AI to match clauses between the two contracts, even when they have been reordered or reworded. A confidentiality clause in section 4 of one contract will be matched to the confidentiality clause in section 7 of the other, rather than being flagged as an addition and a deletion. This makes the comparison meaningful even when the two versions have different structures.
The most common use case for comparison is reviewing a counter-proposal from the other party. Upload their revised version, then compare it against your original draft. You will immediately see which clauses they changed, what they added, and what they removed — all without reading both documents line by line.
Merging
After reviewing the differences, you can build a merged contract by selecting the best clause from either version. Work through the highlighted differences one at a time, choosing the version you prefer for each clause. When you are finished, click Save Merged Contract to create a new contract that combines your selected terms. The original contracts remain unchanged — the merge always produces a new document.
